My Story

Dear fellow explorer,

Welcome to Good Food Journeys.

I am Malhar Panchwagh, the founder of Good Food Journeys, and this is my story.

Born and brought up in India, I came to New Zealand in 2003 for a change of life style. It took a lot of courage as I was leaving a well-paying job back home and arrived in Auckland with no job. Friends and family warned me that it was a bold (or borderline silly) move. My wife and I had given ourselves two years to 'make a life' here and if it didn't work out we would go back. As it turns out, we got our citizenship after 3 years and completed our family with 2 beautiful boys since.

I've lived in NZ for over 15 years now but still have very strong ties to my motherland. I am an Indian by birth and a Kiwi by choice. Over the years, whenever I have spoken to anyone who hasn’t been to India, there is a genuine interest to visit the country but there is also a certain nervousness about going there alone and unescorted. I believe that a visit to India should be on everyone’s bucket list. I thought what if there was someone who knows India really well and also understands Kiwi's? This was the genesis of Good Food Journeys, inspired by my desire to showcase India to Kiwi's. And what better way to experience India than discover stories about its culture, heritage and food.

I invite you to join me; and in our journey we will not only discover some amazing stories, but also contribute towards a Good cause. We have partnered with a charity called Annamrita, which feeds one million under-privileged children free meals in schools on a daily basis. For every person who travels with us, we will make a donation that will feed 5 kids their school meals for one entire year! I've always wanted to give back through my love for travel and this gives me an immense sense of gratitude.

So if you love fun, adventure, meeting new friends, food and are a traveller rather than just a tourist this is the unforgettable holiday you've been waiting for. I will be personally escorting the tour and supported by local guides, I want to ensure you get the most out of experiencing magical India. I invite you to join me and see for yourself why India has fascinated the world for hundreds of years while supporting a very Good cause while you are at it…

Sincerely,
Mal.
