Flavours, Festivals And Gems Of India – January 2027

This 13-day journey is for travellers who want to experience India properly - through its food, its people, its craftsmanship and the stories that sit behind it all. It has been designed the way we like to travel ourselves - allowing time to absorb the colour and energy of each place rather than rushing through it.

We begin in Mumbai, where the city’s dining scene sets the tone - dinners at celebrated restaurants such as The Bombay Canteen and Indian Accent. There’s time to explore, shop, or simply unwind by the rooftop poolside above the city’s buzz. It’s a gentle immersion into modern India: creative, confident and full of flavour.

In Amritsar, the atmosphere shifts. The Golden Temple at dawn is quietly powerful, and sharing a simple meal in the vast community kitchen offers perspective that lingers long after. Street food, warm Punjabi hospitality and the festival of Lohri add a sense of celebration and connection.

Jaipur brings romance and craftsmanship. Staying in a 18th century palace, private time with master jewellers, hands-on artisan experiences and intimate Rajasthani dining. A scenic drive leads to Agra, where sunrise at the Taj Mahal is every bit as moving as you hope it will be.

The tour concludes in Delhi, where the old and new collide – grand Mughal architecture and the contract of British Colonial buildings. Farewell dinner reflects the evolution of Indian cuisine today.

This is Chand’s fourth journey to India with Good Food Journeys. Her connection to the country, the cuisine and understanding of the traditions add depth to every destination. Travelling with her brings an ease and familiarity that turns a beautifully planned itinerary into something far more personal.

This is not a hurried tour. It’s India experienced thoughtfully - through its kitchens, its artisans and its enduring spirit. Staying in the luxury hotels carefully selected for this journey are destinations in their own right.

Tour Plan

Day 01 : Sunday, 10 Jan 2027 - Arrive in Mumbai

Our staff will greet you on arrival and transfer to The St. Regis Mumbai, your home for the next three nights. After a long flight, there’s time to relax - perhaps a swim at the rooftop pool, a spa treatment, or simply watching the Arabian Sea shimmer in the distance.

For those feeling energetic, the Palladium Mall sits just below the hotel – more than 250 luxury boutiques at your doorstep.

In the evening, we gather for a relaxed welcome dinner at one of the hotel’s signature restaurants - our first chance to meet, share a glass of wine, and ease into the rhythm of India.

Day 02: Monday, 11 Jan - Mumbai

After breakfast, we explore South Mumbai — the colonial heart of the city. Expect grand British-era architecture, buzzing markets, the sea-facing promenade of Marine Drive, and glimpses of everyday Mumbai life that feel cinematic.

Lunch is at an iconic seafood restaurant (payable directly) before returning to the hotel for a restful afternoon.

Dinner tonight is at The Bombay Canteen - playful, nostalgic, and inventive. Think regional Indian flavours reimagined with modern flair, served in a space inspired by old Bombay bungalows. It’s lively, creative, and a perfect introduction to contemporary Indian dining.

Day 03: Tuesday, 12 Jan – Mumbai

After breakfast, you may join a visit to Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai’s historic jewellery market. It is a dense, glittering labyrinth where traders have dealt in gold and gemstones for generations.

If you are not much into gems and jewellery, enjoy the day at leisure: spa time, high tea, a private shopping appointment, or simply doing nothing at all.

Dinner is at Indian Accent, one of India’s most celebrated restaurants and long featured on Asia’s 50 Best list. The tasting menu here is thoughtful and beautifully executed — inventive without losing its roots.

Day 04 : Wednesday, 13 Jan – Mumbai - Amritsar

After an early breakfast, we fly to Amritsar. The mood shifts from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, as Punjab has its own rhythm: warm, spirited and generous.
In the evening, we head to the Wagah Border ceremony, a theatrical daily ritual on the India–Pakistan frontier. It is equal parts patriotic, surreal, and unforgettable.

Dinner is a guided street food walk through Amritsar - smoky tandoors, crisp kulchas, sweet jalebis fresh from hot syrup. This is bold, authentic and unapologetic Punjabi flavour.

Day 05 : Thursday, 14 Jan – Amritsar
At dawn we visit the luminous Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of Sikhism. Sitting by the sacred pool as devotional music drifts across the marble complex is quietly moving.
We will visit the vast community kitchen (Langar), which feeds tens of thousands people daily, and share a simple, humbling meal there.
Later, visit the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial, a deeply moving site that commemorates the tragic 1919 massacre, where over a thousand innocent people lost their lives. Then explore the local Bazaars for clothes, shoes, etc. In the evening, we experience Lohri celebrations — bonfires, music, dancing — and a festive Punjabi dinner.
Day 06 : Friday, 15 Jan – Amritsar – Jaipur
After breakfast transfer to the airport for flight to Jaipur via Delhi.
On arrival, check into a Palace hotel. It is an 18th-century Mughal-style palace set amid 18 acres of manicured gardens — a serene, heritage retreat that feels worlds away from the bustle of Jaipur. The afternoon is free to enjoy the palace ground or wander the markets.
Dinner is inside Amber Fort - candlelit, under the stars and deeply Rajasthani. Expect slow-cooked meats, fragrant dals and recipes once served to royalty.
Day 07 : Saturday, 16 Jan – Jaipur
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a half-day city tour of Jaipur. Start with the Amber Fort, built in 1592 - a magnificent fortress set high in the Aravalli Hills and a masterpiece of Rajput architecture. Ascend to the fort by elephant (or optional Jeep) and explore its grand courtyards, palaces, and intricate interiors.
Afternoon; visit to City Palace – the royal palace for the Maharaja of Jaipur. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, this sprawling complex is a stunning blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture, with grand courtyards, ornate gateways, intricate frescoes, and beautifully preserved royal chambers.
Dinner is at Sarvato, tucked within the palace complex. Dining here feels intimate and refined — regional dishes presented with elegance, surrounded by centuries of history.
Day 08 : Sunday, 17 Jan – Jaipur
Jaipur is India’s gemstone capital. Jaipur is globally celebrated as the Gemstone City of India. Its legacy with gemstones dates to ancient times. Jaipur stands as one of the world’s most important centers for high-quality precious and semi-precious stones.
Today we step behind the scenes into an exclusive jewellery workshop, meeting master artisans who cut and set stones using techniques passed down through generations. There’s time to commission or purchase something special - not tourist trinkets, but heirloom pieces.
Later, choose between exploring local markets or learning traditional block printing to design your own linens or tablecloth.
In the evening, enjoy a hands-on cooking class followed by dinner in a Palace kitchen where Rajasthani hospitality shines.
Day 09 : Monday, 18 Jan – Jaipur – Agra by road
After breakfast, we set out on a road trip to Agra. It is a 5-hour drive with stops along the way.
We pause for lunch at Sheroes Café (payable directly), a social enterprise run by acid attack survivors — an experience that adds depth and context to modern India.
In the evening visit the Agra Fort. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Agra Fort is a magnificent citadel of red sandstone that once served as the seat of the Mughal Empire. Built in the 16th century, it houses a stunning blend of Islamic and Hindu architectural styles, with grand palaces, mosques, and audience halls within its massive walls.
Dinner is at a roof top restaurant with your first view of the Taj Mahal – a moment that never quiet feels real.
Day 10 : Tuesday, 19 Jan - Agra to Delhi by road
An early start — and worth it. At sunrise, we enter the Taj Mahal just as the marble begins to change colour in the morning light. With fewer visitors and a softer atmosphere, this is the most contemplative way to experience it. Your guide will share the love story, architectural genius, and symbolism behind this extraordinary monument.
After a leisurely breakfast, we drive to Delhi (approx. three hours). On arrival, we check into The Oberoi New Delhi, a contemporary luxury hotel overlooking Humayun’s Tomb and Delhi Golf Course. The afternoon is yours - perhaps a spa treatment, a swim, or private shopping with a stylist who can source textiles, jewellery or bespoke tailoring.
Dinner at Dhilli is a refined interpretation of regional Indian cuisine - beautifully plated, balanced and elegant, offering a quieter counterpoint to the boldness of Punjab and Rajasthan.
Day 11 : Wednesday, 20 Jan- Delhi
After breakfast, we explore New Delhi - wide roads, government buildings designed by Lutyens, and historic landmarks that trace the city’s imperial past. We will visit Humayun’s Tomb (a precursor to the Taj Mahal), drive past India Gate, and gain insight into Delhi’s layered history.
After lunch, the mood shifts dramatically as we enter Old Delhi. A cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk immerses you in a sensory world of spice markets, sweet shops, silver merchants and street vendors. We will visit Khari Baoli, Asia’s largest spice market.
Dinner is at Chor Bizarre, celebrated for its Kashmiri Wazwan. This ceremonial multi-course feast - slow-cooked meats, saffron rice, rich gravies is as much about tradition as it is about flavour. Paired with Indian wines, it’s a fitting tribute to the diversity of Indian regional cuisine.
Day 12 : Thursday, 21 Jan – Delhi

Today is intentionally unhurried - a chance to revisit a favourite part of the city or simply enjoy the comfort of the hotel.

Optional experiences can include:

  • A private textile walk exploring India’s finest handwoven fabrics
  • A contemporary art gallery visit with a curator
  • A guided tasting of Indian teas or craft gins
  • A bespoke tailoring appointment for a custom jacket or kurta
  • A session with an astrologer or palmist

In the evening, we gather for our farewell dinner at Nisaba, helmed by celebrated chef and our dear friend Manish Mehrotra. Expect confident, modern Indian cuisine and a story behind every dish. It is a final culinary crescendo that ties together the flavours and stories of the past 12 days.

Day 13 : Friday, 22 Jan – Delhi – departure

After a relaxed breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Depending on your flight time, we can arrange a late check-out or suggest a final experience - perhaps a last stroll, a spa visit, or some quiet time to reflect on the journey before heading home.
